Team Play: Signature Workshop by Gary Guller

Team Play
Engaged teams are the lifeblood of successful organizations. They produce results that far exceed the sum of the individual capacities of their members.
Talent may secure matches, but tournaments are won only by team play. Enabling team performance thus becomes critical for organizational growth.Facilitating team play of the kind that is witnessed in a well-rehearsed orchestra, a synchronized surgical unit, or a winning sports team, is one of the top challenges of organizational managers.

Transformational Power of a Vibrant Dream and Winning Team effort

Adapted from Chapter 10 (GARY GULLER: SHATTERING STEREOTYPES) Of the book “Bright Trimphs From Dark Hours” by “David Heenan”

"Team Everest had captured the public’s attention. The climbers’ unprecedented accomplishments were featured in countless newspaper and magazine articles and numerous national and international television reports. They had achieved a goal many considered unthinkable: In the face of adversity, they had overcome the odds. “The freedom to explore is a freedom that everyone should have, regardless of their abilities or disabilities,” Guller told his admirers."
Gary Guller is both a world-renowned, record-setting mountaineer and a professional motivational and inspirational speaker, trusted by the world’s top organizations and corporations. In 2003, Gary was leader of the largest ever cross-disability group to reach Mt Everest Base Camp, at 17,500 feet. After setting this record, he went on to scale the peak, reaching the summit on May 23, 2003, and becoming the first person with one arm to summit Mt. Everest. Later the next year, Gary lead an expedition to the summit of the world’s sixth highest mountain, Mt. Cho Oyu, located in Tibet. In April 2010, Gary completed the grueling Marathon des Sables in Morocco. The MdS is a 6 day, 153 plus miles (250km) endurance race across the Sahara Desert - “The hardest stage race in the World” (CNN World News). Gary has gone on to become a trusted keynote speaker and personal executive coach.

Inspirational Speaker Gary Guller: Thanks Sudha and everyone at Team Bangalore Mirror

"When Gary concludes by saying, “Think Big. Act bold. Treat people fairly. Play to win. Be the best you can be, everyday,” you are unable to discard it as yet-another-motivational-speaker-giving-his-spiel-to-clients-with-fat-purses, simply because the `empty’ left sleeve of his blue shirt flaps, and you can almost hear it say to life, “Gotcha!”For the `sleeve’ belong s to a man, who two decades ago, lay on the hard icy floor of Pico de Orizaba, with a dead friend on one side, and an uncertain future ahead; it belongs to the man who climbed the world’s tallest mountain and it belongs to a man who says with a broad smile, “Always make others greater and success is guaranteed.”

Everest Speakers: Gary Guller and the Marathon des Sables

Marathon des Sables (MDS) 2010April 2-12, 2010:
Entry by Gary Guller September 12, 2009:
Marathon des Sables Training Commences for Gary Guller: 43 years of age, weight 212 lbs or 86.3kgs (180lbs or 81.8kgs is the goal prior to race start)
Training Backpack (Nathan 63) weight: 15lb or 6.8kgs (approximate backpack weight at race start 25lbs or 11.36kgs). Still on the fence regarding this particular model backpack, may or may not be the one for me. I have to test everything as not to expel extra energy (with one arm) unnecessarily.
Okay, we are officially on some sort of schedule now. After a couple of Heineken "lights" (argghhh) - last night (only 2) and a bunch of rained out US open tennis - I put on the pack this morning and ran for 70 minutes. I feel great, and for the rest of September I will concentrate not so much on speed or distance, but increasing my time. Old fashion training, moving forward and upward and in the heat.
Thanks so much to everyone for the support thus far. Clif Bar for their nice supply of energy bars, gels etc. Oakley for my snazzy new glasses, Newton and the wonderful team at Multisports. Thank you.
Of course, thanks to all the corporations, non profits, executives and organisations that request me as their keynote speaker. And thanks to Jt Clough (9x ironman finisher) for patiently training with me. Jt is a runner and I am more the cldyesdale type - so yes, she slows it way down.

Everest Speaker Gary Guller (nice article from the past)

MOUNT EVEREST BASE CAMP, Nepal – It's midnight, and Gary Guller is still up in his expedition tent, bundled into a sleeping bag and yelling into a satellite phone.
The roar of an avalanche splits the icy darkness, answered by a tinny din from the phone. Forty-five fifth-graders back in Texas are screaming in delight that a real mountaineer would share such an adventure with them from the top of the world.
The 36-year-old climber flashes a grin, delighted at more converts to his passion and his cause: The freedom to explore should be open to anyone, and there's nowhere better to prove it than the highest of his beloved mountains of Nepal.
"It doesn't take a lot of money, a lot of material things. It's people willing to get out and make the effort, being willing to work together and help and try," he said. "Even if it's going only 50 meters. Sometimes just one meter is enough. Sometimes, all it takes is getting off the couch."
The Austin resident took a team of people with disabilities to Everest's base camp this spring to prove just that, and he's now poised to take his message to its summit.
Joined by two other American climbers and a small team of Nepalese Sherpas, Mr. Guller hopes to stand on the peak of the 29,035-foot mountain in the next few weeks. If successful, he would be the first person with one arm to reach the top of Everest.
It would complete an odyssey that began at age 12, when he was captivated by a photo of a snow-rimmed peak on the trail to Everest. "I thought, 'One day, I'd like to see that. One day, I will,' " he said.
He roped up for his first rock climb the next year....

The article was written by my dear friend Lee Hancock for Team Everest (Dallas Morning News) Thank you Lee.

Diversity Speakers: Gary Guller NDEAM

October 2009: National Disability Employment Awareness Month

ANSWER: Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The Office of Disability Employment Policy has the lead in planning NDEAM activities and materials to increase the public's awareness of the contributions and skills of American workers with disabilities. Various programs carried out throughout the month also highlight the specific employment barriers that still need to be addressed and removed.
This effort to educate the American public about issues related to disability and employment actually began in 1945, when Congress enacted a law declaring the first week in October each year "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week." In 1962, the word "physically" was removed to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. In 1988, Congress expanded the week to a month and changed the name to "National Disability Employment Awareness Month."Reference: U.S. Dept. of Labor - Office of Disability Employment Policy
October is one of Gary's busiest months, so advanced reservations are encouraged. Below are examples of presentational topics.
Training: Interacting with People with Disabilities
Specialized training on how to effectively interact with people with disabilities. Tips on communication, respecting space, wheelchairs, service animals and other unique issues. Successfully presented to attorneys, criminal investigators, hotel employees and front-line personnel. People with disabilities represent an increasing market segment and successful interactions have proven to benefit our clients.
