Everest Speaker Gary Guller

One of his students asked Buddha, "Are you the messiah?""No", answered Buddha. "Then are you a healer?""No", Buddha replied. "Then are you a teacher?" the student persisted. "No, I am not a teacher.""Then what are you?" asked the student, exasperated. "I am awake", Buddha replied.

DePaul Industries, Incight & Gary Guller

Gary Guller thanks all that attended this wonderful event!
With our Education Programs we are addressing the barriers that keep people with disabilities from entering postsecondary education and training programs. Our Employment Programs are working directly with employers and jobseekers with disabilities linking talent and opportunity to change the fact that only 36.9 percent of people with disabilities are employed. In the coming months we are going to be rolling out our Networking and Independence Programs that are going to empower people with disabilities to connect with each other and to move on to develop independent lives where they are contributing members of society.
Incight empowers people with disabilities to become contributing members of society. We accomplish this through several dynamic programs focused in the areas of: Education, Employment, Networking and Independence.

Everest Speakers: Gary Guller and the Marathon des Sables

Marathon des Sables (MDS) 2010April 2-12, 2010:
Entry by Gary Guller September 12, 2009:
Marathon des Sables Training Commences for Gary Guller: 43 years of age, weight 212 lbs or 86.3kgs (180lbs or 81.8kgs is the goal prior to race start)
Training Backpack (Nathan 63) weight: 15lb or 6.8kgs (approximate backpack weight at race start 25lbs or 11.36kgs). Still on the fence regarding this particular model backpack, may or may not be the one for me. I have to test everything as not to expel extra energy (with one arm) unnecessarily.
Okay, we are officially on some sort of schedule now. After a couple of Heineken "lights" (argghhh) - last night (only 2) and a bunch of rained out US open tennis - I put on the pack this morning and ran for 70 minutes. I feel great, and for the rest of September I will concentrate not so much on speed or distance, but increasing my time. Old fashion training, moving forward and upward and in the heat.
Thanks so much to everyone for the support thus far. Clif Bar for their nice supply of energy bars, gels etc. Oakley for my snazzy new glasses, Newton and the wonderful team at Multisports. Thank you.
Of course, thanks to all the corporations, non profits, executives and organisations that request me as their keynote speaker. And thanks to Jt Clough (9x ironman finisher) for patiently training with me. Jt is a runner and I am more the cldyesdale type - so yes, she slows it way down.

In total, we had 14 members on this truly international Team. I'm pleased to confirm that out of the 14 folks on the team, 10 summitted, 3 climbed to the Yellow Band and 1 very special person, supported us all the way to Base Camp.

Everest Speaker Gary Guller (nice article from the past)

MOUNT EVEREST BASE CAMP, Nepal – It's midnight, and Gary Guller is still up in his expedition tent, bundled into a sleeping bag and yelling into a satellite phone.
The roar of an avalanche splits the icy darkness, answered by a tinny din from the phone. Forty-five fifth-graders back in Texas are screaming in delight that a real mountaineer would share such an adventure with them from the top of the world.
The 36-year-old climber flashes a grin, delighted at more converts to his passion and his cause: The freedom to explore should be open to anyone, and there's nowhere better to prove it than the highest of his beloved mountains of Nepal.
"It doesn't take a lot of money, a lot of material things. It's people willing to get out and make the effort, being willing to work together and help and try," he said. "Even if it's going only 50 meters. Sometimes just one meter is enough. Sometimes, all it takes is getting off the couch."
The Austin resident took a team of people with disabilities to Everest's base camp this spring to prove just that, and he's now poised to take his message to its summit.
Joined by two other American climbers and a small team of Nepalese Sherpas, Mr. Guller hopes to stand on the peak of the 29,035-foot mountain in the next few weeks. If successful, he would be the first person with one arm to reach the top of Everest.
It would complete an odyssey that began at age 12, when he was captivated by a photo of a snow-rimmed peak on the trail to Everest. "I thought, 'One day, I'd like to see that. One day, I will,' " he said.
He roped up for his first rock climb the next year....

Diversity Speakers: Gary Guller NDEAM

October 2009: National Disability Employment Awareness Month

ANSWER: Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The Office of Disability Employment Policy has the lead in planning NDEAM activities and materials to increase the public's awareness of the contributions and skills of American workers with disabilities. Various programs carried out throughout the month also highlight the specific employment barriers that still need to be addressed and removed.
This effort to educate the American public about issues related to disability and employment actually began in 1945, when Congress enacted a law declaring the first week in October each year "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week." In 1962, the word "physically" was removed to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. In 1988, Congress expanded the week to a month and changed the name to "National Disability Employment Awareness Month."Reference: U.S. Dept. of Labor - Office of Disability Employment Policy
October is one of Gary's busiest months, so advanced reservations are encouraged. Below are examples of presentational topics.
Training: Interacting with People with Disabilities
Specialized training on how to effectively interact with people with disabilities. Tips on communication, respecting space, wheelchairs, service animals and other unique issues. Successfully presented to attorneys, criminal investigators, hotel employees and front-line personnel. People with disabilities represent an increasing market segment and successful interactions have proven to benefit our clients.

Attitude. We are in charge.

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gifted ability, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace from that day. We cannot change our past, we cannot change the fact that people will act in certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing that we can do is play on the one string that we have and this string is, Attitude. I am convinced that life is ten percent what happens to me and ninety percent how I react to it. And so it is with you....We are in charge of our Attitudes. -- Charles Swindoll
